Industrial charm lives on

The history of the Hallen am Rhein dates back to the time when industrial history was being written in Schaffhausen. As factory buildings, they made a valuable contribution to Schaffhausen as a business location even back then.

In 2015/16, the Hallen am Rhein were completely renovated, modernised and brought up to date. The charm and flair of the industrial architecture in the building complex were deliberately preserved. It's not just the stairwells that exude retro chic - it was also continued in the offices and combined with modern elements. Thanks to imaginative engineers, around 90 car parking spaces have been available inside the building since the conversion. As a further innovation, a photovoltaic system on the roof now produces electricity.

From the history of the Hallen am Rhein

Carl Maier, founder of CMC

Carl Maier (1877-1952) is probably the most important industrial pioneer in Schaffhausen in the first half of the 20th century and founder of ‘Carl Maier & Cie’, CMC for short, which had part of its production in the Hallen am Rhein from the 1950s to the mid-1990s.

Find out more about Carl Maier in the «Pioniercast Wipf&Blunschi» and how he made his CMC flourish early on in the then new industrial neighbourhood of Ebnat. In their Pioneercast, Matthias Wipf and Alex Blunschi follow in the footsteps of Carl Maier and his story.
